The M.A.S.S. Spare Tire Platform turns the unused space above a rear-mounted spare into a 42-inch-wide exterior cargo deck. At 18 pounds, it adds room for camp gear, recovery equipment, firewood, or trail cargo without committing the roof to another rack.
- Designed for most 33- to 40-inch spare tires
- Requires a tread patch wider than 9.7 inches
- Works best with a sturdy swing-out tire carrier
- Not compatible with the AEV Fuel Caddy
Exterior Storage Without A Roof Rack
The STP follows the tire instead of the vehicle body, which makes it useful on Jeep Wranglers, Ford Broncos, and other off-road vehicles that meet the tire and carrier requirements. The platform straps to the spare, so the space above the tire becomes usable without drilling a vehicle-specific rack into the body.
We build the platform in the USA from 1/8-inch 5052 aluminum. The tray measures 42 inches wide by 19.125 inches deep inside the rails, with slots and mounting points around the perimeter for tying down cargo and adding compatible accessories.
5052 aluminum keeps the platform light enough to remove when the trip is over while providing a full-width cargo surface above the tire.
Keep cargo at or below 50 pounds, spread evenly across the platform. Your spare-tire carrier may require a lower limit.
Use the deck for duffels, dry boxes, firewood, recovery boards, and other gear that is better carried outside the cabin.
Mounting And Carrier Requirements
For the most stable setup, run straps around the circumference of the tire and laterally through the wheel. Routing through the wheel is the preferred lateral mounting method. Most 1-inch ratchet straps can work, or you can select the optional STP Ratchet Strap Kit with endless-loop straps and sliding Cordura sleeves.
The tire carrier is part of the load system. We recommend no more than 50 pounds of cargo, evenly distributed across the platform. The STP itself is plenty strong, but the spare-tire carrier and its vehicle attachment may be the limiting factor. For heavier setups, mount the spare on a sturdy swing-out carrier rather than directly on the tailgate. Count the platform, accessories, and cargo when checking the carrier’s limit.

Fitment Details That Matter
- The platform is sized for most 33- to 40-inch tires with a tread patch wider than 9.7 inches.
- An angled spare-tire carrier or smaller tire may be a better match for the M.A.S.S. Spare Tire Platform Mini.
- You may need to remove or relocate the third brake light, depending on the vehicle and carrier.
- The full-size STP is not compatible with the AEV Fuel Caddy.
- The side cutouts were designed to work with the Rock-Slide Engineering EZ Rack.
Common Questions
Will The Spare Tire Platform Fit A Jeep Wrangler Or Ford Bronco?
It can fit Jeep Wranglers, Ford Broncos, and other vehicles with a rear-mounted spare when the tire and carrier meet the requirements. Check for a 33- to 40-inch tire, a tread patch wider than 9.7 inches, enough brake-light clearance, and a carrier rated for the platform, accessories, and cargo together.
How Much Weight Can The STP Carry?
We recommend no more than 50 pounds of cargo, evenly distributed across the platform. The actual safe limit may be lower because the spare-tire carrier and its vehicle attachment must support the spare, the 18-pound platform, every accessory, and the cargo.
Are Mounting Straps Included?
The STP Ratchet Strap Kit is an optional bundle item. Most 1-inch ratchet straps can be used, but the platform should be secured around the tire and laterally through the wheel for maximum stability.
When Should I Choose The STP Mini?
Choose the STP Mini when your spare is smaller than the full-size platform’s typical 33- to 40-inch range or when an angled carrier makes the smaller footprint a better fit.
Does It Work With The AEV Fuel Caddy?
No. The full-size M.A.S.S. Spare Tire Platform is not compatible with the AEV Fuel Caddy.

Love my MASS STP. Have it on my Bronco Raptor. Didn’t realize I would have to do third brake light delete, but well worth it! One of my favorite parts of the rig now.

Thanks for the business, Harry! Glad you like the STP. You’re right about the Bronco’s stock 3rd brake light. Since this is a generic product, we can’t list all compatibility, but hopefully this may help be more clear to potential customers in the future. An aftermarket 3rd brake light (ex. Rigid Industries) works well on the STP’s as well! Thanks again.

This is an essential edition to any Overlander. Space is always a premium and if your wife packs like the princess from Spaceballs (like mine) this is indispensable. Quality and engineering is stellar. Thanks for this great product! Would give over 5 stars if I could.
