Communications

In all of our vehicles, we run the Icom 5100A communications radio. The flexibility of VHF, UHF, and GMRS is key in making sure you can communicate wherever you go and whoever you’re with.

The key to this radio is having someone perform the “MARS Mod”. This allows the radio to communicate on the GMRS frequencies. Keep in mind that if you do this, you must have a GMRS license.

We purchase the radios from Gigaparts with the MARS Mod already performed.

The antenna is mounted to our Ford Ranger A-Pillar Brackets.

The display is mounted to a prototype bracket just below the OEM entertainment screen. The base/speaker for the radio is mounted to a prototype bracket attached to the gas pedal to stay out of the way. The microphone is connected to a CAT5 bulkhead connector for easy removal.
