Air Down at the Trailhead, One Tire at a Time
The ARB E-Z Digital Deflator lets you drop tire pressure and check your progress without taking the tool off the valve stem. Thread it on, back out the valve core inside the tool, and slide the collar to let air out. Close the collar to see where you landed on the digital gauge. When you reach your target, reinstall the core before unthreading the tool.
On sand, lower pressure can help the tire spread its footprint. On rocks, it lets the tire conform to uneven surfaces. On washboard, it can take some of the sharpness out of the ride. If you air down regularly, the payoff is the same at every stop: fewer tool swaps and an easier time getting each tire where you want it.
Why Use It Instead of Pulling the Valve Core by Hand?
The valve stem stays in the wheel. The core is the small threaded piece inside it. Pressing the center pin with a key or a small tool lets air out through the core. Taking the core out opens the full passage, but if you do it with a bare core tool, air keeps escaping while you juggle a loose core and a separate gauge.
The ARB tool backs the core into the chuck and keeps it captive. The sliding collar gives you a way to stop airflow and take a reading while everything is still connected. That matters when you’re kneeling in sand or gravel and the last thing you want to do is hunt for a part the size of a pencil eraser.
How to Use the ARB E-Z Digital Deflator
- Connect. Remove the valve cap and thread the deflator onto the stem.
- Withdraw the core. Engage it with the tool’s core driver, unscrew it, and retract it into the chuck.
- Release and check. Open the slide collar to let air out. Close it to read pressure. Use shorter bursts as you approach your target.
- Reinstall the core. Thread the core back into the stem before removing the deflator. Check for leaks and replace the cap.
See ARB’s tire deflator walkthrough for a demonstration of the E-Z mechanism.

Common Questions
Does It Stop Automatically at a Set PSI?
No. You control the airflow with the collar and pause to check the gauge. It’s a good fit if you want to choose your pressure as conditions change or run different targets front and rear.
Can I Use It to Air Back Up?
No. It releases air and measures pressure. Pack a compressor or another inflation source so you can restore the appropriate road pressure before getting back on pavement.
What PSI Should I Air Down To?
There’s no single number for every rig. Tire construction, wheel setup, vehicle load, terrain and speed all matter. The gauge helps you hit and repeat the target you choose for your setup.
