Fitment Notes

The current iteration is only for the JKU. We will be releasing a 2-door version.

The current shipping components are not setup to work with the soft top, but we will be building a bolt-on bracket that will enable the soft top to work. That should follow very shortly and will be available separately for a small fee. It will be two small steel brackets.

Important Powder Coating Note

Powder coating is a manual process done by humans and may take some time. When you purchase powder coated products from AAL, we coat them for your order. Occasionally, that means delays with non-standard colors, resprays for less-than-perfect conditions, etc. We have a very high standard with powder coated products. We will work to get your parts coated in the best condition possible before they leave the building.

If you select “Powder Coat the Steel Components Only”, those parts will be powder coated textured black.

Multiple Materials

We combine three different materials to provide ultimate strength and still keep it as light weight as possible.

  1. 3/16″ steel for the roll bar connecting brackets
  2. 1/8″ steel for the vertical supports that attach to the roll bar for superior strength and lateral stability.
  3. 1/8″ steel the side spreaders. This ensures that the platform parts are able to strong over the entire span of the shelf.
  4. 1/8″ aluminum for the platform parts. This is where we can save some weight. Due to the mounting method, we are able to reduce the weight of the largest components in the rack.
  5. 1/8″ steel for the vertical, under-platform supports. Here’s where we got fancy. The vertical steel supports bolt in and provide a huge amount of vertical strength.
  6. 1/8″ steel for the edge guards to provide maximum strength for securing cargo.

In the photo above, the main cargo panels are set to transparent as well as the driver’s side mount. This allows you to see how the steel supports mount below the cargo platform. This is how we keep the weight low and the strength high.

Innovative Connection Design

This is the best part of the shelf. This joint provides maximum lateral rigidity. You won’t believe how sturdy this shelf is once it’s mounted. We take great pride in our ability to maximize the efficiency of our designs using features such as this. This joint is located at all four corners of the shelf.

Limitless Mounting Options

It’s your Jeep. You should optimize your gear however you need to make the most of your adventure. With the vertical cutouts in the front and rear of the shelf, you can use Single Stud Tie Rings or the new VersaTie Hook from Mac’s to make your setup just perfect for your need.

Torture Test

Yes, I know this is a JL, but we use the same bi-metal design and support structure in the JKU shelf. As soon as I find someone willing to let me do jumping jacks in the back of their JKU, I’ll update this video. 🤣🤣 In all seriousness, the JKU shelf is ridiculously strong. With the 3/16″ steel mounting flanges we use and the multiple layers of “spine” in the center of the shelf, the weight is very evenly distributed throughout the roll cage.

Minimum Height From MASS Storage Platform – 15.5″

Maximum Height From MASS Storage Platform(Shelf Brackets Flipped) – 23.25″

Maximum adjustability is achieved by flipping the outer shelf brackets and swapping from driver to passenger side. The bottom image shown here displays the flipped and normal orientation of the side brackets to demonstrate the variable height.

    Got my JKU Cargo Rack installed today and it is SOLID!! I had to add some mounting holes on the horizontal bracket to get it installed but that’s due to my particular setup with a Bestop TrekTop Pro softtop and a Dometic 75qt fridge, I needed it to be placed further towards the rear seat for clearance. After confirming with AAL that it wouldn’t cause any issues, the drill came out and new holes were added. Now it’s all installed and looks great! I even added an additional light underneath the shelf as well as one on the back window.
